MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A stranger reportedly told a 13-year-old boy to get into his pickup truck in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday.
The man was said to have posted an ad online. He offered to give away a free scooter, according to the Mountlake Terrace Police Department.
The boy said he went to Terrace Creek Park along 48th Avenue West to meet the man. A small, red pickup with a canopy pulled in around 2:45 p.m., police said.
The driver allegedly instructed the boy to get in the truck and help grab the scooter. He refused and the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, repeated himself.
The boy ran away and called police. Officers took him home.
Mountlake Terrace police have set up a safe place for people to exchange items purchased over the internet. Security cameras record the transactions. People can meet at the entrance of the police department at 5906 232nd Street SW.
