LYNNWOOD — Most classrooms at the new Lynnwood High School are nearly complete. Some have painted walls, floor tiles and doors.
Construction is on schedule for teachers to begin setting up their new classrooms this summer, district spokeswoman DJ Jakala said.
Next in line for completion are the wing that hosts career and technical education and performing arts, the library, and the gym.
Construction crews are installing drywall and painting some interior sections of the building. When the weather warms, crews plan to spend more time planting fields, paving, and painting the exterior.
Staff are in the process of buying new furniture for the school.
“It’s just a beautiful sight to see the school come to life like this,” Jakala said.
The new school, east of I-5, is expected to cost $99.8 million. A bond voters passed in 2006 is funding most of the project. Grants, state funds and timber sales will pay for the remainder of the school, which is on a formerly wooded lot in a residential neighborhood.
The district plans to lease the current school to Texas-based Cypress Equities LLC.
Lynnwood High School students, staff and alumni will have a final chance to tour the school at an Old School Closing Celebration on May 30.
The event features an open house and tour from 1 to 5 p.m., dinner and an ASB silent auction fundraiser from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and a closing celebration from 7 to 8 p.m. All events will be held at the current Lynnwood High School, 3001 184th St. SW.
