LYNNWOOD — Brandin Ayling is accused of attacking people with swords. Again.
The 24-year-old Lynnwood-area man appeared in Everett District Court on Friday. He is being held on $750,000 bail for investigation of first-degree domestic-violence assault.
Police say he took a passel of drugs Wednesday night before slashing his grandmother, his roommate and an acquaintance.
The roommate, a 40-year-old man, was listed in satisfactory condition Friday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He suffered a slash wound to his neck, lawyers said in court.
The grandmother, 65, suffered less serious injuries. The acquaintance needed stitches to his hand and then was booked into the jail on warrants.
Ayling has no felony history in Washington, but he was arrested for a knife-related offense in 2011, and for another sword attack in Arlington in 2010, court records show.
In the 2010 case, Ayling, then 20, was accused of threatening his mother’s boyfriend with a sword and poking the man in the chest with the weapon. That case later was dismissed.
Wednesday’s night melee was reported about 9:10 p.m. inside and outside Ayling’s home near Lake Serene. Ayling reportedly told officers he is bipolar and was suicidal, according to an arrest report.
His lawyer told a judge on Friday that Ayling was acting in self-defense. Prosecutors have until next week to file charges. If released, Ayling is not allowed to possess any weapons.
