MOUNT VERNON — A Lynnwood man died in a crash Friday afternoon on Highway 9 in Skagit County after his car smashed head-on into a tractor-trailer, the Washington State Patrol said.
Michael Shevchuk, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:25 p.m. collision about two miles south of Mount Vernon, a patrol press memo states. The cause remained under investigation Sunday.
Shevchuk had been driving a 2004 Kia Rio north on the highway when his car went into the opposite lanes and hit a southbound 1996 Kenworth truck, troopers said. The 42-year-old truck driver was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital for treatment. The truck also pushed Shevchuk’s Rio into a 1998 Lincoln Navigator driven by a 35-year-old woman, who was not injured.
Troopers said the surviving drivers were not at fault and will face no charges.
