Lynnwood man held after crossbow incident in Tulalip

TULALIP — A burglar who was caught in Tulalip on Wednesday allegedly aimed a stolen crossbow at a park ranger who confronted him.

The crossbow was broken and had no arrow, though. And at one point during his escapades, the burglar also was naked.

The 29-year-old Lynnwood man was being held Thursday at the Snohomish County Jail. He allegedly told police he was blacked out during whatever happened the day before.

The incident started about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Port Susan Camping Club, a private camp on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. The club has park rangers who patrol the area. Some people vacation there. Some stay year-round.

A park ranger was called after a stranger broke into a shed. When the ranger arrived, he saw the burglar was naked.

The man shut the shed door. Moments later, he emerged clothed, holding a crossbow.

He reportedly pointed the crossbow at the ranger’s head and “told him to stop talking on the radio (and) get on the ground face down.”

The ranger didn’t obey. The crossbow was broken.

The man then grabbed a neighbor’s scooter and began pushing it down the road as if he hoped to use it in an escape.

He then abandoned the scooter and approached another home, going into another shed for awhile.

The ranger kept watch while waiting for police. The man walked into a fifth-wheel trailer. The trailer owner wasn’t too happy about that and an argument broke out. The man reportedly picked up a wrench and started randomly hitting things in the trailer.

The trailer owner told police he wasn’t scared of the man because “the crossbow was empty and broken.”

He went outside to wait it out with the ranger in the ranger’s rig.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrived and booked the crossbow-toting man for investigation of assault and burglary. Court records show the man was ordered last fall to seek treatment for drug addiction.
