LYNNWOOD — A 48-year-old man is behind bars after he walked into the Lynnwood Police Department on Monday morning and told officers he killed his wife.
Police found the body of the 51-year-old woman inside the couple’s single-wide mobile home in the 5900 block of 200th Street SW.
The woman, whose name was not released Monday, had died sometime over the weekend, Cmdr. Paul Watkins said.
He did not say how the woman was killed.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was being held for investigation of first-degree murder.
This is the third homicide in Lynnwood this year.
Watkins said police investigated domestic violence complaints between the man and woman at the residence in the past. He would not say who was the aggressor in those incidents.
The suspect had not been arrested for domestic violence and does not have an extensive criminal history, Watkins said.
"There was nothing to indicate this kind of behavior," Watkins said.
He would not say if the man told detectives why he killed his wife.
Neighbors said they never heard the couple fighting but knew the pair was having financial problems.
"They were being evicted. She came over to use my phone on Friday and was excited that the (park) owner was going to buy her place," neighbor Margie Simeon said.
Neighbors said the woman moved to the Center Mobile Home Park a few years ago. Her husband was gone for a while and returned last summer, Simeon said.
"It’s so sad. I wish I could have helped her more," Simeon said.
