LYNNWOOD — Expect to see more police near the Alderwood shopping mall.
A $60,000 state grant is helping to pay overtime to Lynnwood police to post extra traffic patrols in the area.
“Speeding vehicles are the highest contributor of serious injury collisions in the city of Lynnwood,” said Lynnwood police officer Stephen Showalter.
Police said they will focus on Alderwood Mall Boulevard and Alderwood Mall Parkway through September. The speed limit in the area is 35 mph, but vehicles have been seen going as fast as 55 mph, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
The emphasis patrol, Lynnwood Retail District Speed Project, is a pilot program being considered for statewide use. The Washington Traffic Safety Commission is the program’s sponsor.
