LYNNWOOD — The city is postponing hiring a fire chief until 2014.
The Lynnwood City Council ran out of time to recruit, research and interview candidates in time to hire someone this year, Mayor Don Gough said.
The mayor’s job and several council positions are up for election this year. Whoever gets elected will have to organize the hiring process, Gough said.
“It’ll be a national search where internal people can apply,” he said.
The mayor would conduct interviews, and the council would have to confirm the choice, Gough said.
“We tried to squeeze it in, and it was just getting crazy,” he said. “The process will mosey on.”
Lynnwood’s been without a permanent fire chief since former chief Gary Olson left in 2011. Since then, the assistant fire chiefs have taken turns acting as interim chief.
Lynnwood officials in 2012 estimated the job’s salary at $115,905 to $146,661, depending on experience and qualifications.
