LYNNWOOD — The Lynnwood City Council will hold a public hearing on an ordinance that regulates the location of a facility that could house, treat and supervise violent predatory sex offenders in Lynnwood.
The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at City Council chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W.
The council last month adopted a permanent ordinance after the interim ordinance had been on the books for a year.
The council had to approve the final ordinance by Sept. 1, and was unable to hold a public hearing on it before approval, senior planner Dennis Lewis said. Council members still wanted to give the public a chance to voice opinions on the ordinance, although it’s already been passed.
The planning commission held one public hearing prior to the final ordinance being adopted by the council. The council also held a public hearing on the interim ordinance last year.
The ordinance limits the location of any proposed sex-offender housing site to an area in southwest Lynnwood — east of Highway 99, west of 60th Avenue W. and south of 208th Street SW to the southern city limit — in areas that are not zoned for residential use.
If the council decides amendments to the ordinance are needed, it can make those changes after the public hearing.
Representatives from the state’s Department of Health and Social Services will attend the hearing. They are expected to report on their recent decision to put a sex-offender housing site near Safeco Field, and what the future of the state’s program holds. For more information, call 425-775-1971.
