LYNNWOOD — A fire in a deep fryer flooded a Walmart with smoke Thursday evening near Lynnwood.
Customers left the store at 1400 164th St. SW around 7:15 p.m., when the fire broke out in a McDonald’s restaurant that’s inside the Walmart near the entrance. Firefighters put out the flames before they could spread beyond the kitchen.
No one was hurt. Haze filled the Walmart late into the night, as fire crews used fans to air out the enormous building.
An electrical problem is suspected to have sparked the flames, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. Damage to the fryer and hood system was estimated at $30,000. It’s unclear how much, if any, of Walmart’s merchandise needed to be thrown out as a result of the smoke damage.
On Friday morning the Walmart reopened.
