EVERETT — The all-time favorite rock song "Sweet Home Alabama" will be booming throughout the Everett Events Center on Feb. 6, as officials announced Tuesday that classic rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform the center’s first concert.
The $71.5 million center opened in September and already has played host to minor league hockey, a state volleyball tournament, Disney on Ice and bull riding.
But this is its first concert. Tickets, ranging from $18 to $43, go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s hits include "Free Bird," "Tuesday’s Gone," "Gimme Three Steps" and "Saturday Night Special."
Singer-songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and vocalist Cassie Gaines died in a 1977 plane crash that ended the band’s initial run. Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie’s younger brother, took over as lead singer in 1987.
"We’ve hit on a combination of old-style Skynyrd with new-style Skynyrd, with commercial Skynyrd," Van Zant said of the band’s latest release, "Vicious Cycle."
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s guitar lineup features Gary Rossington, Rickey Medlocke and Hughie Thomasson. Keyboardist Billy Powell and drummer Michael Cartellone round out the band.
