OLYMPIA — Need a place to park? Try Interstate 5 near Lacey and Tacoma this spring and summer as the state undertakes a huge project to rejuvenate 25 miles of the freeway.
The Olympian newspaper says Washington Department of Transportation officials are warning that at the worst, it could mean night and weekend delays of up to five hours and 21-mile backups.
The work is being done over nearly a dozen weekends this spring and summer. Drivers can expect closures of up to three lanes in one direction on some weekends and a few total closures of I-5 one way. The first extended weekend closure starts Friday night near Lacey, with closures starting in the Lakewood-Tacoma area on April 19.
