Make the most of weekend sunshine

EVERETT — It’s been about a month since most of Snohomish County enjoyed a little sunshine.

It was great on Friday, and the forecast calls for more of the same today, probably Sunday and maybe even on Monday.

That’s the good news and the bad news, said Steven Reedy, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Seattle.

“Too bad on Sunday that most people won’t be outside enjoying the weather. Instead we’ll all be around the TV,” he said.

Reedy, who lives in Mukilteo, is right.

On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Pacific time.

On Sunday evening, clouds are expected to roll in, but the next round of rain probably will hold off until Tuesday, Reedy said.

People can expect high temperatures to reach about 50 degrees today, with overnight lows reaching down to about 37 degrees.

The first few days of January were pretty nice, Reedy said. Then a period of rain mixed with snow was interrupted mid-month by a week of thick fog.

“A high pressure system that normally brings nice weather gave us fog instead, because there was so much moisture at the lower levels,” he said. At higher elevations, such as in Darrington, people had a week of beautiful weather.

Seasonally heavy rain finished out the month of January, and more is ahead this month, Reedy said.

Enjoy the weekend while you can, he said.
