Body found in river; missing man’s family says it’s him

EVERETT — A man’s body was found floating in the lower Snohomish River on Tuesday morning at Dagmar’s Marina.

A passerby called police around 9:45 a.m. after spotting the body in the water. The body appeared to be a middle-aged man, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.

A number of people have been reported missing recently in Snohomish County, including Henry Groeneveld of Snohomish. He disappeared on Dec. 11 after telling his family he was going to the river.

Groeneveld’s family led several searches for him in the weeks since. On Tuesday afternoon they took to social media to report that he was the man whose body was found.

The Snohomish County medical examiner is working to confirm the man’s identity. Major crimes detectives are investigating the man’s death. There were no apparent signs of foul play, Snell said.
