EVERETT — An Everett man accused of pointing a gun at a Washington State Patrol trooper during a high-speed chase Oct. 3 was arrested Wednesday morning.
A little after midnight, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies surrounded a south Everett motel room.
Over a loudspeaker, they told the man to come outside unarmed. After a pause, during which talking could be heard, a woman walked out. Then, after more loudspeaker orders, the suspect came out of the room.
A trooper arrested him without incident.
A fentanyl patch, which contains a dose of opiate, was allegedly found in the man’s wallet, without the required prescription. Officers said they also found a pistol in his room.
The suspect, 26, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of third-degree assault, eluding a police officer and drug possession.
He also faced a felony warrant for failing to report to the Department of Corrections. He had been under supervision for another drug offense.
On Oct. 3, a trooper attempted to pull over a motorist for a potential DUI on 112th Street SW, near 7th Avenue SE. Instead of coming to a stop, however, the driver sped off.
In the ensuing chase, the man allegedly reached speeds of up to 100 mph and weaved into oncoming traffic.
He pulled a high-speed U-turn while going south on Highway 525, court papers say. As he was turning, he rolled down a window and allegedly pointed a silver handgun at the trooper.
The trooper ducked and turned in an attempt to either ram or follow the suspect.
The driver reportedly took off going the opposite way on Highway 525, whipping past at least six other vehicles. He eventually turned onto residential streets.
The last time he was seen, he was driving more than 80 mph in a 25 mph zone, on Dogwood Drive, according to the documents.
A resulting search involved two helicopters and a police dog. The driver’s abandoned vehicle was found, and a gun holster was recovered across the street. The driver was gone, although police say they were able to figure out who he was.
“I do not second guess my identification of (the suspect) as the driver of the SUV and the person that pointed a weapon on me,” the trooper wrote.
