Prosecutors say he used a well-placed mirror to spy into a fitting room while a woman was undressing in September.
On Monday, Richard Bruce Buckenmeyer, 45, of Everett, pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism, a felony.
Buckenmeyer faces a maximum penalty of a year in the Snohomish County Jail. Prosecutors will recommend that he serve one month, according to plea paperwork filed Monday in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Buckenmeyer is scheduled to be sentenced May 8 by Judge Kenneth Cowsert. His defense attorney, Robert Mckay of Edmonds, said Buckenmeyer will undergo an independent evaluation for his sexual problem before sentencing.
On Sept. 28, a woman who was shopping at a thrift store in Edmonds was trying on some clothes in the fitting room. She noticed movement outside the door and looked down.
She told Edmonds police that she saw a shopping basket on the floor, visible in the opening between the bottom of the door and the floor. It contained a mirror, and she realized that it was positioned so someone outside could watch her in the reflection.
She quickly got dressed and found Buckenmeyer standing over the basket looking at the mirror, deputy prosecutor Matt Baldock said.
Buckenmeyer attempted to run but the woman made a commotion and other customers stopped him, Baldock said.
Buckenmeyer told officers he needs help for what he described as “an addiction,” Baldock said.
