EVERETT — An Everett man who led Washington State Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase Wednesday refused to get out of his car even after he crashed into a dirt ditch.
Troopers first tried to stop the man as he sped down Rucker Avenue just after midnight. The man failed to stop, blew through red lights and headed for the freeway, according to police reports. That’s where a trooper used his car to bump the man’s car in attempt to put an end to the chase. The man’s car spun around and collided with a concrete barrier.
Undeterred, the man kept driving on I-5 toward Lynnwood. The man’s car hit 90 mph while he tried to outrun the troopers.
Once he slowed down, a trooper bumped his car again. The man’s car slid into a dirt ditch alongside I-5 near 164th Street SW. The man tried to drive off but eventually complied with demands to turn off his vehicle.
He, however, refused to exit the car. Troopers broke out the car’s window and removed him.
The man, 36, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of drunken driving, eluding police, reckless driving and hit and run.
