EVERETT — A 38-year-old man armed with a large hunting knife was arrested Friday by Snohomish County deputies who entered an apartment where a woman was screaming that she was being raped.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on investigation of first-degree rape.
The 53-year-old woman was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Pacific Campus for treatment, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
A neighbor in the 500 block of 102nd Drive SE reported hearing a woman screaming around 3:15 a.m., Jorgensen said. Deputies went to the apartment, where they heard yells for help.
The deputies entered the apartment and arrested the man, who lived in the same complex, Jorgensen said.
The victim’s daughter had moved out of the apartment, and the victim was cleaning when the suspect entered through an unlocked door and raped her, Jorgensen said.
The two were not acquainted.
Marysville
Man killed: A Marysville-area man was killed late Friday night when he lost control of his all-terrain vehicle and ran into a street sign.
The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of 150th Place NW near a lake, said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The 35-year-old man, whose name was not released, and another couple were riding their all-terrain vehicles in their neighborhood. The victim drove down a hill too fast, rounded a corner and lost control of the ATV, Jorgensen said. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed instantly when he hit a street sign.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for Monday, Jorgensen said. Efforts to reach that office Saturday were unsuccessful.
Snohomish
More arrests: Snohomish police have arrested two more people in connection with the death of Bothell firefighter Gary McAdam, who died after an altercation in a downtown bar last Tuesday.
Police arrested another female employee of the U &I Tavern, who is under investigation for rendering criminal assistance.
Police said the woman helped suspects Tony A. Cullum, who is under investigation for second-degree murder, and Alexandra L. Love, another tavern employee who has been charged with fourth-degree assault, flee from police following the fight.
Police said the woman admitted to taking the suspects to another location after the assault. When she was originally questioned by police, she denied knowing where they were, police said.
Police also arrested a Snohomish man who lives with a third tavern employee who was arrested Thursday for harboring the two suspects in his home following the assault.
The investigation into McAdam’s death is continuing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Snohomish Police Department at 360-568-0888.
