COLUMBUS, Ohio — A judge set $500,000 bail Thursday for a man arrested by airport police after he called a talk radio show and said he had boarded a plane with a knife concealed in his belt.
Robert Hedrick, 37, was charged with carrying a weapon aboard an aircraft and could get up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Hedrick, of Delaware, Ohio, called a Columbus talk show Wednesday from the Pittsburgh airport and said he had inadvertently boarded a US Airways flight in Greensboro, N.C., with a 3-inch knife hidden in his belt, a Port Columbus International Airport spokeswoman said. A listener notified authorities.
Hedrick called the show again after his plane landed in Columbus.
Police said Hedrick called the radio station to get advice on what to do, telling the show’s producer: "I’ve just got to tell somebody."
Police said Hedrick works for a medical distribution company and as a zoning inspector.
