EVERETT — Police on Thursday caught up with a man who allegedly rammed a patrol car and led officers on a high-speed chase last month.
The man, 35, was arrested in the 4000 block of Rucker Avenue. He reportedly had shaved keys, often used to steal vehicles, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia at the time. He was booked for multiple crimes, including first-degree assault on a police officer.
The June 14 ramming incident unfolded at a gas station on W. Casino Road. Two Everett officers attempted to contact the man as he was getting into a stolen Ford Expedition. The officers pulled their patrol car up to the front of the SUV.
The suspect backed up about 10 feet and then rammed the patrol car with the two officers inside.
“He did this while looking directly at the officers in the car. He knew they were police and he knew that colliding with the patrol car would put the officers at risk for injury,” Everett officer Oleg Kravchun wrote in the statement.
He was one of the officers in the car.
The driver pushed the police vehicle out his way. The officers also backed up to avoid serious injury and more damage to their car.
The driver then sped off, passing cars in the turn lane on W. Casino Road and running red lights. He drove up onto a sidewalk at Airport Road. He wove in and out of traffic and made an illegal U-turn across three lanes. Other motorists had to brake hard or swerve to get out of the man’s way.
The suspect “drove in a reckless manner with utter disregard to the safety of those around him,” Kravchun wrote.
He was able to elude capture that day. He also reportedly had fled from Lake Stevens police in February.
