EDMONDS – Police have arrested one of two men sought in connection with a fatal shooting at an Edmonds apartment complex.
Carlos Chavez, 34, was arrested Saturday in Quincy on an unrelated gun violation.
A Quincy officer saw Chavez listed in a statewide homicide database Monday and recognized his photo, Quincy Sgt. Randy Coleman said.
“Thank God the Edmonds Police Department was on top of it and got him into the system. That’s what triggered the recognition,” Coleman said.
Edmonds police went to Quincy to bring Chavez back to Snohomish County, Edmonds Sgt. Debbie Smith said Tuesday.
Chavez was driving a red Ford Taurus apparently connected to one of the two men killed in the Aug. 25 shooting, Coleman said. Quincy police found a gun that may have been used in the shooting, he said.
Chavez was initially arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm after someone saw him with a gun at a fast-food restaurant, Coleman said.
A second man from Eastern Washington was arrested with Chavez, but Coleman did not know how they were connected.
Edmonds police are still searching for a second suspect, Fucundo Romero-Arredondo. He uses the nickname Pancho.
The shootings occurred at the Village Apartments at 8201 Lake Ballinger Way.
Adan Ernandez, 23, died at the scene. Nolberto Lopez-Rodriguez, 36, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
It’s still unclear how many guns were used or if the victims fired back, Edmonds police said.
