ARLINGTON — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman found Wednesday at the scene of a house fire.
The fire broke out at a house in the 18600 block of Silverleaf Place NE. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered the body of a 54-year-old woman on the floor of the living room.
On Thursday, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office said that the woman had been strangled prior to the outbreak of the fire and ruled her death as a homicide.
Police say the fire appears to have been set to cover up the homicide. The case was investigated by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.
The man was arrested Friday evening and booked into jail for investigation of murder and arson, bureau chief Kevin Prentiss said. He had rented a room at the house.
