MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – A driver who reportedly led police on a 20-minute chase throughout south Snohomish County was arrested early Wednesday after a police dog found him hiding inside a dumpster, police said.
The man, 27, stole his ex-girlfriend’s car from her apartment parking lot, Mountlake Terrace police Sgt. Pete Caw said. When an officer saw a car fitting that description in the 21900 block of 52nd Avenue W. at 12:17 a.m., he tried to stop it.
The driver sped away at speeds up to 100 mph, Caw said. Officers tried to stop him by putting a spike strip on the highway. He avoided the spikes, but two tires on a Mountlake Terrace officer’s car were blown.
The chase ended in the 20200 block of Highway 527 at an apartment complex, where the man jumped out of his car while it was still moving, Caw said. The vehicle hit a parked car, and the man fled.
A Lynnwood officer and police dog tracked the man to a dumpster, where he was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and a parole violation.
Lynnwood: Indecent exposure suspected
A Lynnwood-area man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of eight counts of indecent exposure.
The man, 47, is suspected of exposing himself numerous times in front of children who live next door to his home, court documents say. The four children, ages 9 to 14, told Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office investigators that they saw the man exposing himself while in his back yard facing their window. The children took photographs of the man, which they gave to deputies.
The man was convicted of indecent exposure in 1994, which means that if he’s charged again the crime would be considered a felony.
Monroe: Fire guts unoccupied home
Fire gutted an unoccupied home in the 17300 block of 116th Street SE early Wednesday, firefighters said.
When Snohomish County Fire District 3 firefighters arrived shortly after 5 a.m., the home was engulfed in flames, Battalion Chief Mike Dickinson said.
No one was home. The previous homeowner moved out several days before the blaze, and new residents were planning to move in, Dickinson said.
