SULTAN – Police arrested a man with a handgun Thursday who refused to leave Sultan Middle School and then ran away from officers, officials said.
A bus driver called police to report that the man, 18, of Seattle looked suspicious and had refused to leave school grounds when asked, said Sultan Ppolice Chief Fred Walser.
Police found the man, a convicted felon, a couple of blocks away from the school, Walser said. The officer noticed bulges in the man’s pockets, he said.
A search found a loaded .357-caliber handgun and drug paraphernalia in the man’s pockets, Walser said.
The man then ran away from the officer and hid in a house, the police chief said. People who live in the house convinced the man to come out and he was arrested without further incident.
Officers later determined the gun was stolen, Walser said.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of theft of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.
