A man who apparently was shot and wounded by a Mukilteo police officer Nov. 25 as he fled in a stolen car was charged Thursday with first-degree possession of stolen property and attempting to elude a police vehicle.
Jason Christian Vevik, 32, of Edmonds is being held on $25,000 bail.
Mukilteo police responded to a complaint of a suspicious car in a residential neighborhood Nov. 25, and encountered a man in a Honda Accord that had been reported stolen earlier that month in Renton.
The car raced off in the direction of a police officer, and a second policeman fired several shots in the direction of the driver.
Police followed him in marked police vehicles. The Honda traveled at speeds up to 60 mph in a 35-mph zone, documents say, and didn’t stop until it crashed. The driver ran away.
Fingerprints found in the car led to identifying Vevik, documents say. He was arrested in Seattle. Detectives learned that he had been treated for a gunshot wound in early December at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, indicating that he was hit by one of the officer’s bullets.
He was arrested Saturday by Seattle police on an outstanding warrant, said Jan Jorgensen, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman.
Vevik has 2003 convictions for drug possession, eluding and possession of stolen property. He failed to appear for sentencing in Snohomish County Dec. 9, documents say.
