An Arlington man Tuesday was charged with second-degree assault of a child and giving methamphetamine to a minor after he twice injected a 12-year-old girl Feb. 9, a prosecutor alleged.
The girl got dizzy and began to feel ill, deputy prosecutor Janice Albert said.
"She paced the house, showered until she thought she was going to drown. She tried to go to sleep but could not," Albert said.
She was taken to a hospital where her blood tested positive for amphetamines, Albert said.
Charged is Mark R. Blackshear, 37, who is scheduled to be arraigned March 2 in Snohomish County Superior Court.
The girl and her mother live in the same house with Blackshear and his ex-wife. In the early morning hours, the girl was watching TV when Blackshear came downstairs and injected himself with something he identified as "a drug," Albert said.
Blackshear reportedly asked the girl if she wanted to try the drug. She at first declined, but later agreed, Albert said.
Albert said Blackshear injected her with 30 cubic centimeters of drug into one arm, but it had no immediate effect. He reportedly told her he missed the vein. He then injected 40 cubic centimeters into the other arm, Albert said.
She was still high and edgy with dilated pupils several hours later, Albert said. Her mother noticed two injection marks on her arms and called police, Albert said.
