Man charged in alleged shooting death of friend

EVERETT – An Everett man who allegedly shot a friend in the head after a Sept. 30 argument was charged Tuesday with first-degree manslaughter.

Ronald Daniel Bowen, 48, had been celebrating his birthday when he argued with Kurt Schroeder, 45, at Bowen’s home in the 2600 block of Harrison Avenue in northeast Everett.

Everett police were called about 2 a.m. and found Schroeder, who was shot once in the head above the right eye, on the floor of Bowen’s house. The wounded man died later at a hospital.

Bowen told police both men had been drinking and he asked Schroeder to leave the home after an argument, deputy prosecutor John Stansell said in Snohomish County Superior Court papers. Schroeder returned later and they argued again after Schroeder extinguished cigarettes on a carpet and a kitchen floor, Stansell said.

Bowen went to his bedroom, got a .22-caliber pistol. He told police the he didn’t know the gun was loaded, Stansell said.

Missing man, grandsons return home safe

A man and his two young grandsons arrived safely home early Tuesday after they reportedly became lost and spent most of the night searching for a way back to their Everett home.

The Russian man, 64, has only been in the area for about a month since moving from Colorado. He doesn’t speak English. Apparently, he became lost while driving his grandson to the school bus stop in Everett.

The man and boys were reported missing and Everett police alerted other departments to keep an eye out for the man’s minivan.

The man reportedly drove around for nearly 12 hours until he found a couple at a cafe who spoke Russian and helped him find his way home, Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said. The man and his grandsons arrived home just after midnight Tuesday.
