An Arlington man, who allegedly was angry about having to pay his ex-wife child support for their two children, was charged Monday with burning down her Mukilteo house.
Kevin Mark Brown, 41, faces first-degree arson, residential burglary, harassment and telephone harassment charges, deputy prosecutor Paul Stern said.
A fire Friday in the 4700 block of 81st Place SW destroyed the home and did about $250,000 damage, Mukilteo fire officials said. Fire officials said there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.
On Monday, Stern charged Brown in Snohomish County Superior Court accusing him of threatening his ex-wife and her friend, and of illegally entering the home. Once inside, Brown found a can of gasoline and spread it around her bedroom and lit it on fire, Stern alleged.
A neighbor reportedly saw an older van, similar to the one Brown drives, just before the fire erupted.
Police arrested Brown later Friday, and he was being held in the county jail. Superior Court Judge Ellen Fair set bail at $750,000 Monday because of his threats and the allegation that he “has now acted extremely in carrying out such threats,” Stern said.
