CHICAGO – A Chicago man described as a master counterfeiter in Rolling Stone magazine has been charged with making bogus bills in his apartment.
Arthur Williams Jr., 33, was arrested after a man involved in a disturbance at Williams’ home flagged down a police officer Monday and showed him a wad of counterfeit cash, according to court records.
Officers found more fake bills, tracing paper, an airbrush and other equipment, according to an affidavit filed by the Secret Service.
Russell Collett, assistant special agent in charge of the Secret Service office in Chicago, said Williams’ magazine profile didn’t necessarily make authorities more eager to arrest him.
“But I’m sure at some point a judge is going to look at that as part of his background,” Collett said.
Williams told the magazine in July 2005 that he layered thin strips of paper and reproduced the bills with computer equipment, but he said he had quit counterfeiting.
