TACOMA — A man will spend up to 37 years in prison for the 1993 stabbing death of a woman who was attacked while babysitting two young relatives in her Spanaway home.
The News Tribune reported thata judge sentenced 52-year-old James Mitchell Friday. Jurors convicted him last month of first-degree murder in 36-year-old Linda Robinson’s death.
DNA evidence linked him to the crime in October 2013.
Superior Court Judge Katherine Stolz said Mitchell would likely die in prison.
Mitchell repeated in court Friday that he did not kill Robinson, saying his trial was unfair and that there were other suspects.
Robinson’s niece and nephew were sleeping in the living room when she was attacked in the kitchen.
Shawonika Elliott was 7 years old when she woke and found her aunt’s body.
