Man crossing Casino Road hit and dragged

EVERETT — An Everett man was dragged 67 feet after being hit by a sport-utility vehicle as he was crossing W. Casino Road Friday night.

Westbound traffic was snarled for about two hours after the incident, police said.

The 58-year-old victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was in critical condition with two broken legs and facial injuries, police said.

The accident in the 100 block of W. Casino Road occurred around 6:30 p.m. after a white minivan stopped to let the man cross the street. Witnesses said a white Ford Escort then rear-ended the minivan.

A 29-year-old Everett woman in the adjacent lane was so busy watching the accident she didn’t see the pedestrian in front of her, hitting the man with her Nissan Pathfinder, said Lt. Greg Lineberry with the Everett Police Department.

Police are still looking for the drivers of the white van and Ford Escort involved in the accident. If you have any information, please call 425-257-8457.

Getting revenge: A Monroe woman, upset that police arrested her son, allegedly got revenge by hiring two men to slash the tires on several city police cars, according to court papers filed Thursday.

The 42-year-old woman was angry with police after officers arrested her son for vehicle prowling in June 2000.

The woman told a witness she was "giving them what they deserved," and it cost her "only $20 for justice," deputy Snohomish County prosecutor Joan Cavagnaro said in court papers.

The woman was charged with one count of second-degree malicious mischief, a felony.

Material found: Suspicious materials found Wednesday in a trash can at a car wash may be associated with production of methamphetamine, authorities said.

Monroe police and firefighters responded at about 7:30 a.m. in the 18700 block of U.S. 2 after a property manager found the items. A hazardous materials team removed the materials, which will be disposed of after analysis by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Charges filed: Two Snohomish area men were charged Thursday in connection with the Oct. 14 attempted robbery of a Marysville grocery store.

Jeremy J. Milam, 19, was charged with first-degree assault for shooting at a fleeing store clerk. Brian Scott Riser, 18, was charged with attempted first-degree robbery.

Mark Roe, deputy prosecutor, is asking for $100,000 bail for Milam and $50,000 for Riser.

According to charging documents, the young men drove to the grocery in the 5300 block of 61st Street NE, each armed with a pistol. Milam told police the clerk "bolted from the store," and he "fired three shots at him," documents said.

Riser told police he waited in the car.

Man identified: The Snohomish County medical examiner identified a man who died when his small pickup collided with a semi-truck on I-5 Tuesday as Stephen Shannon Davis, 43, of the Anacortes area.

Davis was driving a 1997 Nissan pickup northbound when his pickup ran off the road, crossed the median and drove into the path of a southbound semi, authorities said.

The truck driver was taken to Cascade Valley Hospital for observation.

Wilderness meeting: The Cascade chapter of the Sierra Club plans a community meeting at 10:30 a.m. today at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., to call on public officials to protect America’s wild forests.

Some will walk their neighborhoods handing out literature urging protection of forests and areas proposed for protection as wilderness.

Park honored: The Edmonds-South Snohomish County Historical Society has chosen Edmonds City Park as the recipient of a historical plaque. The plaque will be placed by the flagpole at 3 p.m. Sunday at City Park on Third Avenue S. Afterward, there will be a reception and program at the Brackett Room at Edmonds City Hall.

Bank robbery: A robber made off with a handful of cash from a Cascade Bank branch inside the Haggen grocery store Friday.

The robbery occurred in the 8900 block of Market Place near Lake Stevens. Snohomish County sheriff’s tracking dog Hauk tried unsuccessfully to track the robber.

Witnesses described the robber as a white male in his mid-30s, about 5 feet 8 inches, with blue eyes, brown hair and a mustache. He wore a blue windbreaker and a green baseball cap, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the robber to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.

Sex offender: A recently released sex offender has registered to live in the 20700 block of Richmond Road in Bothell.

David William Nelson III, 37, was convicted in 1996 and 1997 of molesting a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old boy over an eight-month period, according to police.

Nelson befriended the 10-year-old victim’s family and began taking the victim on outings, police said. He also served as coach of the boy’s football team. In a separate incident, Nelson befriended an 11-year-old victim and got him involved in a church program. The victim ended up spending nights at Nelson’s home.

Nelson is under several restrictions for the next 12 months.
