STANWOOD — A Stanwood-area man died Thursday after he was in a serious car wreck on Kayak Point Road the night before.
It is unknown if the man died from injuries from the car accident or from a medical problem, said Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County sheriff’s office.
The man, 68, was driving westbound in a Ford Thunderbird on Kayak Point Road, east of its intersection with Marine Drive. Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, he crossed the center line and struck a sport utility vehicle head-on, Hover said.
“Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash,” she said. “We’re looking at the possibility that the 68-year-old driver suffered a severe medical problem that caused him to cross the centerline.”
People in the SUV were checked over by medics at the scene. A small boy in the SUV who was taken to the hospital after the crash has since been released, Hover said.
The boy had been wearing a seat belt and was buckled in properly, which likely prevented more serious injuries, she said.
Additional details about the man who died will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
