EVERETT – A fatal house fire reported early this morning was likely caused by food left on a stove, fire investigators say.
The house at 2119 74th St. SE was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after 1:30 a.m., said Everett fire inspector Rick Robinson. Inside, firefighters found the body of a man.
The man’s name has not been released yet, but firefighters believe he’s the owner of the house and has been remodeling it for the past month, Robinson said. No smoke detectors were found inside.
The fire, which was extinguished by 6 a.m., gutted the front of the house and burned the roof, Robinson said.
The man’s body was taken to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
