MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – A man died during a struggle with police on Saturday after trying to run from a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex, Mountlake Terrace police reported.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance complaint just before noon at Creekside Village, 4208 236th St. SW, officials said. The first officer to arrive saw a man described as in his mid-40s running from the scene, Mountlake Terrace police Sgt. Pete Caw said.
The officer tried to control the man, who was reportedly acting erratically, and a citizen stopped to assist the officer, officials said. Another police officer then arrived at the scene.
Moments later, the man stopped breathing, Everett police Sgt. Cheryl Braley said. Officers tried to revive the man, and paramedics were summoned, but resuscitation efforts failed.
The man died at the scene, Braley said.
The Everett Police Department and Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case, she said.
A witness, Tamera Leahy, said she saw the man receive CPR.
“His face was all purple,” said Leahy, of Yakima, who was visiting her sister Saturday at the apartment complex.
Leahy said she had no idea how the man ended up lying on the ground next to the apartment building.
Caw said police haven’t determined whether the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Officials wouldn’t disclose the man’s identity until the Snohomish County medical examiner conducts an autopsy, Braley said. The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
