MONROE — The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal rollover accident that occurred Saturday night in the 23300 block of Woods Creek Road near Monroe.
The vehicle was southbound around 9 p.m. when it left the road, went down an embankment and crashed into a tree, ending up on its roof, according to a sheriff’s office memo.
The driver, 27, died at the scene. He was described as a local man but his name and hometown were not released Sunday.
A front seat passenger, 16, was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Rochon. She suffered serious injuries,
A 19-year-old passenger in the back seat was not injured. He was able to provide investigators information about the crash, Rochon said.
The accident is being investigated by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Unit.
Initial findings indicate speed was a factor in the accident, Rochon said. No determination has been made about driver impairment, he added.
The identity of the driver was not released, pending a positive identification.
