MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A Shoreline man died while swimming in Lake Ballinger Tuesday afternoon, according to South County Fire.
The man, 52, was on a raft with a group of friends when something dropped in the water, said fire spokesperson Leslie Hynes. The man reportedly dove in to retrieve the item, but started having difficulties.
His friends pulled him onto the raft and attempted CPR, Hynes said.
Firefighters responded a little after 3:05 p.m. and reached the man using a boat. They continued CPR on the way back to shore.
“Unfortunately the efforts to revive the patient were unsuccessful,” Hynes said.
It’s unclear if he died from drowning or from a medical condition, she said. Cause of death and identification will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
