SEATTLE — A man who helped rob a jewelry courier in Bellevue has been sentenced in Seattle to more than five years in prison.
The 38-year-old man, Sergio Santamaria of Mexico, was sentenced today in federal court for interfering with commerce by robbery.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Seattle says he was one of three men who robbed the courier in September of last year of $221,000 in jewelry at a McDonald’s restaurant where he has stopped for breakfast.
The fleeing van was tracked and the three were arrested off I-90 near Snoqualmie.
Prosecutors says Santamaria has a previous conviction for following elderly victims from banks and stealing valuables from their cars.
