OTHELLO, Wash. — A man being sought in a rowdy party outside this Eastern Washington town almost literally fell into the hands of authorities.
Carlos Juarez, 21, of Othello, trying to hide in the attic, was taken into custody when he fell partway through the ceiling of the duplex where a special response team from several jurisdictions had assembled, Adams County sheriff’s deputies said.
Undersheriff John W. Hunt said the one-hour episode last Saturday began with a report of a fight that turned out to involve a party attended by at least five people.
Four left the duplex on orders from the deputies, but one hid in the attic and town police and the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team were summoned after it was determined that a gun might be involved.
The team entered the duplex after a search warrant was obtained, and Juarez apparently crossed from one side of the attic to the other but was caught when the ceiling over the kitchen gave way, Hunt said.
Juarez was arrested for investigation of violating a protective order, criminal trespassing and third-degree malicious mischief. The gun was found in a dresser drawer.
A second man, George Anguiano, 22, Othello, was arrested for investigation of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a firearm and an outstanding warrant.
