Man hit by car while attempting to cross street

LYNNWOOD – A car struck a man trying to cross 196th Street SW on Thursday morning, police said.

The man was not in a crosswalk, Lynnwood officer Pat Connelly said. The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was trying to get across the busy road in the 6500 block of 196th Street SW about 5:20 a.m.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was in serious condition Thursday afternoon.

Thief who allegedly highjacked car caught

Police stopped a man who told them he had carjacked a woman with a BB gun so he could clear up a warrant for his arrest.

Sgt. Paul Hickok spotted the man Monday on Highway 99 and 196th Street SW. The officer, thinking the driver might be drunk, stopped the car.

The driver admitted he stole the car from a woman in Bellingham, and there was a BB gun under the driver’s seat, Cmdr. Paul Watkins said Thursday.

The man, 19, later told Hickok he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Wisconsin. He said he went to clear up the warrant but was told nothing could be done about it unless he committed a crime.

He was turned over to detectives in Bellingham.

Stanwood: Car crash sends woman to hospital

A 74-year-old woman was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Thursday after a two-vehicle accident at Highway 532 and 12th Avenue NW, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The condition of the woman, Virginia Walker, was not available Thursday night, a nursing supervisor said.

Walker was stopped in a Nissan Altima at the intersection about 4:30 p.m. when she started to make a left turn onto the highway and was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Ronald Rollins, 30, of Camano Island, the state patrol reported.

Everett: Man hit by cars is expected to recover

A man who was hit by two cars Monday is expected to recover, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said Tuesday.

A car struck the man near the intersection of Airport Road and Highway 99. He was thrown into the air, and a second car struck him, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was treated for two broken legs. No one will be cited in the accident, Jorgensen said.

Monroe: Police arrest two burglary suspects

Police arrested two women allegedly responsible for at least a dozen burglaries and thefts in and around Monroe and Snohomish.

The women, ages 25 and 27, were arrested Oct. 22 after they were discovered inside a stolen Cadillac Escalade.

In the weeks leading up to their arrests, the women allegedly broke into several vehicles, stealing credit cards, checks and stereo equipment, Monroe police spokeswoman Jan O’Neil said Thursday.

One woman allegedly bought $240 worth of merchandise at a 7-Eleven using a stolen credit card. The same day they were arrested one of the women attempted to pass a stolen check at a check-cashing business.
