EVERETT — An Everett-area man was out of surgery and in critical care Monday morning after being shot by his roommate the day before.
The 35-year-old man has life-threatening injuries, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. He remains at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The roommate, 24, is cooperating with detectives, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
Contrary to an earlier press release from the sheriff’s office, the roommate has not been arrested while the investigation continues.
Detectives are “looking into the possibility of self-defense,” Ireton said.
Deputies were called to the Bunkhouse Condominiums in the 900 block of 130th Street SE, south of Everett, shortly before 3 p.m. An argument broke out between the men and one of their girlfriends, sheriff’s Lt. Rob Palmer said earlier. The argument became a fist fight, and the younger man drew a pistol and fired several times.
The pistol was recovered.
No other new details were shared Monday.
