KIRKLAND — Officials say a man killed by a Kirkland police officer had handed his toddler to another officer shortly before he was shot.
The King County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Monday released more information about the incident.
Officials say on Oct. 15, Robert Burgess Jr., 35, had approached a woman in her car and tried to give her his 3-year-old son.
She called police and followed him as he drove off with the child. When police arrived Burgess reportedly handed his son to an officer and ran. Officials say he was armed although it’s unclear if that was the case.
After police received a call about a carjacking, they reportedly found Burgess who struggled with officers and grabbed one of their guns. An officer then shot and killed Burgess.
Officials continue to investigate.
