SEATTLE — A Lynnwood man has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for scheming to recruit and then coercing young women and teens into prostitution.
David D. Delay, 52, was convicted of 17 federal felonies after a 10-day jury trial in November. He was sentenced on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
According to evidence, including the testimony of seven victims, the defendant targeted vulnerable teenagers and women in their early 20s by claiming to be a famous film producer with a multimillion dollar contract to produce a HBO documentary on prostitution.
Delay falsely claimed they would make millions by participating. He sent them falsified bank account screenshots supposedly depicting the profits of other films, a photograph of himself outside an HBO office, and seemingly binding contracts that he asked them to sign that obligated them to pay him more than a thousand dollars per week in prostitution proceeds.
Delay falsely promised some victims he was negotiating for them to star in a reality TV show produced by Ryan Seacrest.
The FBI worked with the Redmond Police Department and U.S. Attorney’s Office.
