EVERETT — A Lynnwood man Wednesday was ordered to spend more than three years behind bars for his 15th drunken driving conviction.
Robert L. Castle, 52, already is serving more than five years for a drunken driving conviction in Seattle and a booze-induced police chase last year in Snohomish County. He faces additional charges in King County stemming from a separate allegation he was driving drunk in December. He could face a felony charge based on his recent conviction.
A Snohomish County jury on Tuesday convicted Castle of eluding police and drunken driving from an incident in February 2007 in Bothell. Castle was spotted weaving all over the road. He led police on a chase that eventually ended in Castle, where he was stunned with an electric-shock gun.
“Mr. Castle will do what Mr. Castle wants to do,” Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Edirin Okoloko said. “It’s quite remarkable … that he hasn’t killed anyone yet.”
Okoloko successfully encouraged Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Larry McKeeman to order Castle to serve the maximum sentence under the law.
“It’s quite clear Mr. Castle is a serious risk to the public,” McKeeman said.
McKeeman found that Castle is indigent and waived any fines, except for a mandatory victim’s assessment fine.
