SEATTLE — An Everett man is headed to federal prison for 15 years after being convicted for the second time of possessing child pornography.
James William Stilson, 40, was sentenced during a hearing Friday in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
According to U.S. attorneys, Stilson was convicted in 2004 of possession of child pornography while living in New Mexico. He moved to Western Washington while on probation, and in 2009 fled to Mexico before he could be arrested for accessing the internet to view sexually explicit images of children. His illegal activity was discovered because of required monitoring devices on his computer equipment.
Stilson was caught attempting to sneak back into the U.S., and convicted in 2012 of failing to register as a sex offender. While on probation for that conviction, Stilson was caught using a smart phone. A Seattle police dog trained to find electronics searched his home and found multiple devices.
Forensic examination turned up child pornography and messages from Stilson who, posing as a teen boy, attempted to convince girls to send him sexually explicit images.
