ARLINGTON – An Arlington man who admitted firing several gunshots in the direction of children was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday.
Jesse Lee Hartman, 21, pleaded guilty in September to one count of drive-by shooting after 8- and 9-year-old brothers narrowly missed being hit July 19 in the 25800 block of Fern Bluff Road near Sultan.
The victims told sheriff’s deputies they were standing by the road near their home when a shiny black truck drove by and a passenger began shooting in their direction. They told officers at least six shots were fired.
Everett: Leaders condemn racial slur
A racial slur spray-painted on a Snohomish County family’s car was condemned by community leaders Tuesday as an act that “cannot and will not be tolerated.” County Executive Aaron Reardon and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson denounced the vandalism. “This incident is an act by someone who clearly does not represent this community,” Stephanson said. In addition to the spray paint, all four tires were slashed on Ravonne Whitlow’s Cadillac last week, and more than 5 pounds of sugar was poured into the gas tank, causing an estimated $4,000 in damage. Whitlow, who is black, said he’s “glad that people are supporting me and my family. People in this community need to be aware of what’s going on.” Everett Community College, where Whitlow works, will post a banner today at Parks Hall for students and the public to sign.
Whidbey Island: Driver who struck man sought
State troopers are searching for the driver of a car that struck a man Tuesday. Nicolas Pettitt, 24, was waiting for a bus at North Bluff Road and Highway 525 when he was hit by a car, trooper Lance Ramsay said. The man suffered head injuries and broken bones. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark sedan. It likely has damage to the front end and windshield. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Patrol at 360-658-2588.
Snohomish: Police search boy’s computer
Police are searching the e-mail accounts of a 14-year-old boy who has been missing since July 26. Shelby Raistlin Wright was known to frequent Internet chat rooms, investigators said. He and his laptop computer were missing when his grandparents returned from a trip out of town. Shelby was caring for his great-grandmother at the time of his disappearance. Anyone with information is asked to call the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office at 425-388-3845.
