LYNNWOOD – A road rage incident turned into a shooting when a driver opened fire at a car that allegedly had cut him off on I-5 in Lynnwood just after midnight Friday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A 23-year-old man riding in the other car suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated for minor injuries at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds and released. No one else was injured.
The alleged shooter, a 22-year-old Lynnwood man, was arrested by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and is under investigation for first-degree assault with a weapon, according to Snohomish County booking reports.
Both cars were getting on I-5 from I-405 around midnight when one car allegedly cut off the other. The Lynnwood man caught up to the other car near 164th Street SW and began shooting with a handgun, the State Patrol said.
Both cars left the freeway at 164th Street. The Lynnwood man drove east from the exit, and the other car headed west, the State Patrol said.
The shooter was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in the 15500 block of Highway 99.
