EVERETT — An argument over missing stereo equipment left one man dead Thursday night in south Everett after an acquaintance allegedly struck him with a car, officials said Friday.
Deputies from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 100 block of 117th Pl. SE a little after 11:30 p.m.
They found a Renton man, 31, unconscious and lying on the ground, Sheriff’s Office bureau chief Kevin Prentiss said.
The man died before medics reached him, Prentiss said.
Officials believe he was at the home to pick up a car that had been stored there.
When he discovered a stereo missing from the car, he confronted an Everett man, 23, he believed had stolen the equipment.
“The victim and suspect became involved in a verbal argument,” Prentiss said.
Officers believe the Everett man eventually tried to drive away, but the Renton man got in the way, Prentiss said.
“After several attempts to leave the location, the suspect struck the victim with his vehicle and pinned him against another vehicle,” Prentiss said.
When the Everett man moved his car, the other man fell to the ground, Prentiss said.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office collision investigations unit are handling the investigation.
The Everett man was detained at the scene, but no arrests have been made.
A determination on the cause of death and confirmation of the man’s identity will be made by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, Prentiss said.
