Man walking on tracks critically injured by train

EVERETT – A man hit by a train early Friday was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition, authorities said.

The man was walking along the railroad tracks near Harborview Park, 1621 Mukilteo Blvd., when he was hit, said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, which operates the rail line.

The crash happened about 3:40 a.m., said Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant. The train, headed from Pasco to Vancouver, B.C., was traveling at about 18 mph, Bryant said.

The train’s conductor sounded the train’s whistle and bell to try to alert the man, Melonas said.

The man remained in critical condition Friday evening in Harborview’s critical care unit, Bryant said.

Mountlake Terrace: Chase ends in capture

A man wanted on a felony warrant led police on a 23-minute car chase Thursday that ended when he hit another vehicle in Shoreline, police said.

The pursuit began after an officer tried to pull over the driver, who was allegedly driving a stolen car, Mountlake Terrace Assistant Chief Mike Mitchell said.

A woman riding in the car attempted to get out, but the driver grabbed her and forced her back inside, Mitchell said.

The high-speed pursuit began at 9 p.m. Thursday in Mountlake Terrace, continued onto I-5 and ended near the intersection of N. 185th Street and Ashworth Avenue N., Mitchell said.

The driver, 28, of Mountlake Terrace struck another car then hit a cement barrier. Both he and the passenger, 20, of Mountlake Terrace were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The other driver had minor injuries, Mitchell said.

The man had a felony warrant for escape, and so did the passenger, Mitchell said.

The woman, who had a protection order against the driver, declined to speak to police in detail about the pursuit.
