EVERETT — An man fatally injured in a fall from a second-story window Monday was identified as James Dunn, 40, of Vancouver, Wash.
Dunn fell from the window just as police arrived to question him about assaulting a neighbor. His death was ruled an accident, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Dunn got into an argument with the neighbor earlier that night, Everett police spokesman Sgt. Boyd Bryant said. Officers who came to his home in the 2400 block of Maple Avenue to investigate were just opening the door to his bedroom when they saw him climbing out the window, Bryant said.
None of the officers had talked to Dunn before he fell shortly after 11 p.m., Bryant said.
Everett paramedics treated Dunn and took him to Providence Everett Medical Center, where he died Tuesday morning, Bryant said.
Live grenade gives
officials a scare
Firefighters got a scare Tuesday when a woman brought a vintage World War II grenade to a fire station.
The woman walked into Snohomish County Fire District 1 headquarters about 4:15 p.m., asking about an old fire extinguisher she had found among her father’s belongings.
She also off-handedly mentioned she had a grenade sitting on the front seat of her car out in the parking lot, district spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
"It definitely turned heads," she said.
Firefighters evacuated the building and shut down 124th Street for nearly three hours until a bomb squad detonated the live grenade, Hynes said. No one was hurt.
The woman’s father, who had severed in the military, had recently died. She had been sorting through his things.
"She’s lucky she wasn’t hurt. As those things age, they can become unstable," Hynes said.
