SEATTLE — A 34-year-old sex offender has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for running over and killing a 91-year-old Seattle woman.
Shawn Shipp apologized to the family of Marie Fite before King County Superior Court Judge Mary Yu sentenced him Friday. He earlier pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.
Prosecutors said Shipp was backing his pickup into a parking space on Seattle’s Capitol Hill when he hit Fite and drove over her body. A deputy prosecutor said Shipp told a witness he thought he hit a puppy.
Police say Shipp’s blood-alcohol level after the crash was measured at .16, twice the legal intoxication threshold.
The Seattle Times said his convictions include child rape, failing to register as a sex offender, assault, drug possession and drunken driving.
